The Studánka Resort

The resort's history in the past century

Around the end of the 17th century, in the Včelný Forest, there was a spa belonging to the town. In the forest there flowed several springs with healing waters, and a small chapel to the Virgin Mary was built there in the first half of the 18th century. In addition to the modest spa building with two wooden tubs, heating equipment and the most necessary equipment leased by the town to the spa landlord or the housekeeper above the spa, later a small forest pub was established.

In 70s of the 19th century the spa building was joined with a pub, restaurant and sleeping facilities, by which Studánka became a small climatic spa for extended summer stays. Many prominent people, writers, university professors, doctors and the violin master Ondříček etc, came to stay here in the countryside. Some came back regularly and brought with them others interested in the peace and tranquillity of the forest. The social and cultural scene of the city was in the late 19th century increasingly transferred into the natural environment of Studánka. Concerts were held here, as were school reunions and festivities of all kinds, such as sporting competitions, contests, exhibitions and fashion shows.

When the Studánka Cooperative was established in 1907, it built a restaurant and sport ground from the proceeds of communal activities. The Czechoslovak Tourists Club, founded after 1880, brought about the enhancement of Studánka. In 1930 the city undertook an extensive reconstruction of the main building, according to the plans of architect Ing. Franšek Šíma, and expanded the restaurant with a large modern hall. At that time, the spa had ceased to function for the third time and the healing effects of the water were replaced by the healthy forest climate, delicious food and various beverages.

The history associated with the company Matrix

In 2006, the hotel, villa and the surrounding land were bought by MATRIX. One of the conditions of the sale was to reconstruct the complex while maintaining its original features and free public access. Until the first half of 2008, the project gradually evolved from the first study up to the executing documentation. A building permit was obtained and a grant from the Regional Operation Programme NUTS II Northeast, priority axis 3 Tourism 3.1 - Development of infrastructure foundations and supporting activities in the field of tourism.

In the summer of 2008 it was necessary to demolish the original building, due to poor structural foundations. This was followed by a selection procedure, whereby the general contractor of the building became the company PRIMA of Hradec Králové.

Gradually a new hotel building was built, and the villa was reconstructed and in the future the surrounding infrastructure will be completed. The aim is to build a facility that will be able to meet the demands of today's modern society, while its architecture will fit into the beautiful natural surroundings.
